Tire Trouble! AHHHHH!!!

  • Mood: Frustrated/Tired

So tonight I experienced some tire trouble and let me tell you it was not fun! I was on my way to my parents house from work and was headed south on I215 when my car started acting really funny! I heard a really funny noise and my steering wheel starting shaking along with every part of my body! I pulled off to the side of the road (remember this is right in the middle of 5:00 traffic). I waited for the traffic to die down a bit before attempting to get out of my car to figure out what was wrong. When I finally checked things out, I discovered that my back tire was COMPLETELY flat. SHIT!!!!! So I got back into my car and figured the best thing to do, since I haven't changed a tire since my high school drivers ed class, is to call my dad to come help me (he was closer to where I was than Spencer). So my dad tells me that he is on his way and to just hang tight, and tells me to remember to breathe & not panic. Yeah, don't panic as I sit on the side of the freeway by myself in traffic. "Okay, dad, whatever you say!" So I just sit back, call Spencer to let him know what’s going on & to talk to him while I wait, since I was freaking out just a little bit! : )

So, as I am waiting, I notice another car in the distance had pulled off to the side behind me. The driver got out of his car and began checking his tires as well. So I am thinking that maybe there is something in the road that we hit, but he got back in his car & just sat there. In the mean time, a truck pulled up in front of me & a guy got out to help me. As the guy started changing my tire, the guy in the car behind me began walking up toward us. Once he got up to me, he started speaking in Spanish. Ummm yeah! I don't speak Spanish. I tried to tell him that I didn't understand but he just kept talking to me. I had no idea what the hell he was trying to tell me. He kept going on & on & on until the guy fixing the tire let handed offered his phone to the Spanish-speaking guy to call for help. Why is it that people who don't speak English just assume that we speak Spanish? I know this just brings up the whole immigration conversation; I was just already frustrated with the tire and that just added to it.  So I got my chubby little tire put on my car & headed for my parent’s house.

The nice guy that fixed my tire had told me that it just looked like my tire needed air and that there wasn't any damage. This was a relief - go get air in the tire, put it back on, & be on my way. Well it didn't turn out to be that easy. I took it in to the tire shop and the outside of the tire started to bubble and the inside of the tire was  shredded. Bubbling and Shredding? Yes, the tire was bubbling & shredding! Has anyone heard of a tire doing that? Needless to say, I needed to buy a new tire. Unfortunately, they didn't have the same brand as my other tires, so I had to get another brand (still a name brand which the girl said would be fine). The same brand would take three days to be delivered. Since I shouldn't go 3 days on my spare, I just got the tire. She also mentioned that the tire could have actually blown apart, judging by its deterioration.  So when I asked the girl if I should have my other 3 tires checked to make sure they don't have the same problem, she said "What other 3 tires?".   "Umm. The other 3 tires on my car!", I replied.  She then said,  "Oh, well yeah you could check those but you would have to get on the ground to check them." Hmmm. Ya know, I didn't think it would take a rocket scientist to think you would have to actually get down to the same level as the tires to look at them, but Wow! I just didn't know quite what to say. She just wasn't much help with answering my questions. You would think that since she works in a tire store, she should probably know about tires, but then again that may just be me. I don't know!

I finally got the tire back to my parent's house and my dad put it on my car. My dad then asks me the brandname of the remaining tires; I tell him a bridgestone. He then tells me that the one I just bought is a different brand and that mixing brands isn't a good idea. That's not what the girl at the shop told me; she said it wouldn't matter.  Did she just say that to sell me the tire and get me out of there?  Did she really not know what she was doing? I just don't know! Oh well, what's done is done! At least I don't have to drive with the spare on, since that does look pretty dumb!

So now that I have kind of gone on a little long, I just needed to vent a bit! It was a long night dealing with stupid people & a stupid tire! I do have to say that guy that did help me put my spare on was awesome! I was a little hesitant as first, just because you never know when someone pulls over to help who they might be or what their intentions might be, but he was extremely nice & very helpful!

Anyway, back to my question! Has anyone heard of tires doing that? I am going to try to check on my other tires this weekend. But do you think it was more of a fluke on that one tire? Is that normal for tires to do that? Should I be worried that my other tires are going to do that to? I know NOTHING about this kind of thing & am now paranoid!

Well have a good one!!!

Back to the Real World!!!!

  • Mood: Sleepy
  • Music: Rush
Okay, so after seeing Kayla's tag I just had to post! I really hope she doesn't fall over dead, oh but I laugh at the thought of her falling out of her chair!!Just Kidding Kayla!!!

Spencer and I just got back from our vacation to Disney World, and I am so not ready to be back yet; but I guess thats life! Wouldn't it be great if we could just be on vacation all of the time! I would love to be able to travel more then we get to!
We left Thursday May 4th (Spencer's 30th b-day). I was a nervous reck because, for one thing,  I am a nervous flyer.  Also, come to find out, I didn't pay attention to one small detail about our flight connection from Denver to Orlando. Our flight landed in Denver at 6:15 & the flight to Orlando started boarding at 6:10 & left at about 20 minutes to get to our next terminal. So while waiting for our flight in Salt Lake we were told it was going to be about 20 minutes late due to weather!! Great! The flight out of Denver was the last one to Orlando for the day! I think I should have had a strong drink because I was just having a little bit of a panic attack! Luckily since it was the last flight out the pilots were willing to wait for us. When we got on the plane to Orlando we were getting some pissed off looks! But I thought oh well, who cares if they had to wait I am on the damn plane & can try to relax a bit.
So anyway after a long morning at work and a long plane trip out we finally got to our hotel at 1:30 am Friday morning!! Our trip was a lot of fun. It was a little hot...oh around 90-95 & humid the entire time.  It only rained once  but did it rain! The rain drops down there are like 20 times the size of ours, but we had a great time!! I am sure I could go on & on about our trip & write about everything, but I won't!

I do have to share a few pictures though! We went to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. There, they have Dr Suess' Landing-which I am assuming is more for kids but it looked like a major acid trip!! Wow!!

Dr Suess' Landing

The Grinch is a Bastard!!!!

The Grinch is REALLY a bastard!!!

Here are just a few more pictures of Dr Seuss's Landing! Don't you think it looks like a bad acid trip?

Well needless to say after a few drinks at lunch we were getting a kick out of this crazy place!!
